Recently, Black Eyed Peas musician Will.i.am was accused of being part of plagiarising South Africa’s DJ Lag’s 2016 track ‘Ice Drop’ on Megan Ryte’s song ‘Culture’ which was released 2 months back. South African social media users came in numbers to stand for the gqom musician. Some of them alleged that this is not the first time the United States Of America musician plagiarised.
SowetanLive says that the DJ Lag acknowledged the settlement details on Wednesday. He, however, states that he cannot say how much he received for settlement. “My team at Black Major and their management team got in touch very quickly to discuss solutions. Communnication was very fast and I think this had something to with all the pressure on social media,” says DJ Lag. When he and Megan were under fire, Will.i.am went on to apologise and took the blame for the plagiarism issue.
He states that Megan Ryte is not at fault. “Megan didn’t do anything wrong. The person who is at fault is myself. When the song was turned in I turned in the credit information to Megan and I obviously got the credit information wrong,” says Will.i.am. The musician went on to direct his apology to DJ Lag, stating that he has an amazing future ahead.
