The coronavirus pandemic has been quite hard on the entertainment industry, especially those in the music sector. Some artists have already cried to the Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, in regards to financial relief. Highly acclaimed music producer went on to speak about how some artists might not recover from the financial strain of the pandemic.
Many people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. The house music producer says some artists are going to lose momentum. “Unfortunately some artists are going to lose momentum to an extent they might never make it back financially after this pandemic,” says Prince Kaybee. However, the musician had a bit of a solution that may help artists stay afloat with the help of big brands. “Big brands know artists need money right now so they would wanna use your song for a campaign but pay you a minimal amount. Yes you need the money but what if the pandemic goes for a year again? Did you negotiate well enough to keep you afloat for the duration of this crisis? All I’m saying is negotiate better lads…,” says the house music producer.
A social media user asked whether the music industry would have to start from the bottom or it would be depressed to a point where starting from the bottom would be tough after the coronavirus pandemic. Prince Kaybee says, “I guess we need to pick up where we left of, no need to start from Zero. I’m always concerned about music, not really a fan of other things an artists does but the music, so it will also be interesting where artists will be musically post the pandemic.”
