Mariechan Details Surviving Smash And Grab Incident
Mariechan Details Surviving Smash And Grab Incident. As the saying goes, “Enjoy today as tomorrow is not promised” is one relatable quote after songstress Mariechan was left traumatised after she survived a smash and grab attack on Monday night, 15 March at the Beyers Naudé Drive off-ramp. Mariechan admitted she never thought something like this would happen to her, however, she grateful to be alive.
The former Jamali singer warns her fans to be cautious when driving and details that the incident took place after she stopped at a red traffic light. She took to her Instagram account to share snaps of her damaged car accompanied by an emotional caption that reads: “We never think it will happen to us until it does. This post is for all drivers female or male, please be cautious on all off ramps, I took Beyers Naudé off ramp last night to head home after leaving a friend’s place around 10pm. I’m a very vigilant driver & keep windows & doors locked but still didn’t see this coming.”
“I approached the red traffic light on ramp & naturally stopped like every other car infront of & next to me….I reached down for my phone cable caught in the groove of passenger seat for a split second & heard the loudest smash, glass shattering on my right side, I was disoriented for a few seconds & thought maybe a car drove into me but quickly realized it’s not the case when a man leaned over me with his upper body through the window trying to get in the car whilst scuffling for my belongings. “
She also adds that she could not see his face as it was dark. “It was dark so I couldn’t see his face well but remember trying to fight him off & keep him out my car, I screamed hysterically & hooted at cars but it was futile….during scuffle he had put my car in Neutral(I drive an automatic) & fortunately the gearbox light was the only light I could see so I managed to quickly shift it to “Drive” mode & thought quickly to put foot down all the way on accelerator even when my hands couldn’t reach steering wheel as I’m still scuffling with him, that was my saving Grace, I successfully got away as he lost grip with the jerk of speed & fell out, I quickly got control of steering wheel, swerved into lane & sped off in complete shock.”
Crying hysterically I looked around for my belongings but couldn’t see them, I was just happy that I was alive & in one piece….as I got closer to home I switched on car light & saw my purse still clenched between my thighs & my phone stuck between my seat & gearbox, my bag was still on the floor of passenger side so he didn’t manage to get ANYTHING coz of my quick reaction. Many are not as lucky & some pay with their lives. All we can do is be on high alert on the road & NOT drive alone at night, rather sleep over at your friend’s place if it’s late, I should’ve listened to my friend who was concerned & asked me to stay #lessons.”
