Mzansi Reacts To White Woman Blackfaced As Nomcebo To Sing ‘Jerusalema’
Mzansi Reacts To White Woman Blackfaced As Nomcebo To Sing ‘Jerusalema’. Racism remains deeply embedded in South Africa nearly 25 years after minority rule ended, racism still remains sensitive in South Africa. With that being said, a Bulgarian singer Mihaela Marinova has faced international backlash after dressing in black face to look like SA songbird Nomcebo Zikode for a TV performance of Jerusalema. Mihaela underwent a huge transformation ahead of an appearance on Bulgarian TV music competition Kato 2 Kapki Voda, which tasks singers with recreating popular hits from around the world.
While Marinova not only sang Jerusalema she took it to another level by wearing prosthetics and makeup to look like Nomcebo. The videocaused outrage on social media as others felt that it was unnecessary of the show to do so, as they could have easily just booked Nomcebo herself to perform her song. In the video, Marinova is singing Master KG’s Jerusalema on stage, while the crowd together with the judges of the show enjoy it.
The Kuthi Hu hit maker Busiswa also voiced her concerns on the matter, retweeting the videos on a caption that reads: “So this white woman was actually black-faced as Nomcebo Zikode to perform JERUSALEMA at an awards show?!?! WTF???? @OpenMicProdSA PLEASE go after them.”
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams shared her disgust at the singer deciding to impersonate her using blackface. “Are you out of your mind? @evgenia.dzaferovic And then the audacity to use our Queen @nomcebo_zikode music. Yep time to take my “CBD” AND GO TO BED . logging out.”
The #Nomcebo was trending on Twitter, while tweeps were disputing the alleged racism by the show. One social media user wrote: “This is why this show is unacceptable & demeaning to black culture.. #nomcebo & master KG must sue this racist show.. The history of the black face has long been rooted in racism & ridiculing black people. We need to STOP tolerating nonsens**.”
