Unathi Nkayi Throws It Back To Her SAMA’s Ground Breaking Records
Unathi Nkayi Throws It Back To Her SAMA’s Ground Breaking Records. Idols judge Unathi had ground breaking experience in the entertainent industry. From balancing between a musician, and a radio and TV host to judging on a popular South African singing competition. She is also a two times SAMA nominated artist, and has hosted the awards’ ceremonies four times.
Unathi has taken out time to celebrate her win at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) with a little #WCW throwback. She celebrates her record made at SAMA of being the only woman to host the SAMA’s alone and to have hosted it more than any host in the history of South Africa music since 2003. She also also holds the record to have hosted the ceremonies with no Autocue assistance.
The Idols judge and musician took to Instagram, to share a snap captioned: “2003 I MADE HISTORY. Becoming the ONLY woman to host the SAMA’s ALONE. Til today. I’ve hosted them 4 times more than any other host in the HISTORY of SA music. I am the ONLY host to have done them with NO AUTOCUE. This genius duo. Johno on the left woke up with a genius idea. He said ‘Unsta why don’t we do the SAMA’s with no auto cue to make them intimate and personal. You’ll walk around the Super Bowl like it’s your living room. Then we moved into Sun City two weeks before the SAMAs and EVERYMORNING Dzino (on the right) would walk up and down the Palace pool with me as I did 200 laps learning my lines……A gentle reminder that if our dreams don’t scare us they are simply not BIG ENOUGH. Thank you to that ENTIRE team. You know who you are and what you did for me THAT year. You pushed me to a place of return.”
