A Look Into How Amapiano Has Become One Of South Africa’s Leading Genres
The latest music genre phenomenon in Mzansi is Amapiano and the craze is only getting bigger. Amapiano is a relatively new genre to South African music scene however, it can be counted as the most popular genres at the moment. From the townships of SA to the world, we guess it’s safe to say that the Yano’s are headed for global domination one hit song at a time.
We have seen some of the biggest American stars including the likes of Diddy, Swizz Beatz and many more party it up to popular songs such as Focalistic’s Ke Star, which has proven that the genre is already serving its purpose, which is to unite the world through music.While the style is said to have originally come about in 2012, it was not until recent times that it blew up the world of music resulting in a rapid increases of online streams, downloads and overall consumption of the Amapiano genre.
Trending Amapiano artists and DJ’s such as DBN Gogo, who has just released her latest chart topper featuring Lady Du titled Kuza Gogo, Kamo Mphela, Major League DJz and many more have already reaped the rewards with new ample trending releases that have earned them the title of being Amapiano pioneers. Rappers like Cassper Nyovest have also hinted at making Amapaiano music.
Amapiano seem to have hit the nail on the head with a mixture of vibrant mix of deep house, gospel-inspired keyboards and traditional up beat tempo’s. This genre has also made way for some of the coolest dances that we have seen since the 2000’s. Piano has not only infiltrated the mainstream, it continues to make waves beyond its borders and if continued at this rate, dare we say the genre may just out run Afrobeats.
