Google Arts & Culture Series Feature Busiswa And Muzi As New Travel Guides

Google Arts and Culture’s video series, Perspectives, takes viewers on a unique virtual tour with their favorite household names. The series recently featured American actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, tennis champion and entrepreneur Venus Williams, Olympic soccer star Daniela Espinosa and our very own, Busiswa Gqulu and Muziwakhe Mazibuko.

The Award-winning artist and musician Busiswa takes us through the streets of Johannesburg starting with Maboneng Precinct and then Newtown Precinct, which she describes as a place where you would meet anyone at any time from the hottest MC to South Africa’s biggest superstar. Her tour also takes us through the streets of Alexandra which she believes are filled with people who are alive, creative and forward-thinking.

The singer, songwriter and electronic music producer Muzi takes us all the way to his birthplace in Glenwood, Durban. His virtual tour then follows through to a skate park in South Beach where he used to skate with friends. We end up right back to the City of Gold where he reveals he held his first one-man show at Arts on Main in Maboneng.

Muzi picked several colourful images of street art and explains that he likes creating work under different aliases so that he can create more. Also, if you’re following Muzi, you’d see that he recently shared an adorable picture of himself and his daughter, Zeno!

We are certainly looking forward to see who else from our country will be featured in this series!

Their virtual tours are followed by their favorite images from the Google Arts and Culture Online Exhibition. Busiswa’s choice is an picture taken during the Women’s Anti-Pass March that took place in 1956 in Pretoria. The exhibition reminds her of, “… the women who came before me and my responsibility to those who will come after me.”
