Distruction Boyz duo announce split for the second time. The South African Gqom duo made up of Que Mgobhozi and Goldmax Mthembu have decided to take a break from the group for the second time. Destruction Boyz once announced on social media in 2022 that they were going their separate ways. After some time, the duo got back together. On the 4th of February 2023, Distruction Boyz took to social media to announce their split. The Gqom singers are taking a well-deserved break from the group. They added that they made a choice of focusing on their music careers as solo artists.
“Members of the Gqom community, thank you for supporting us over the years! Allow us to take a break from being the Distruction Boyz duo you all love so that we can concentrate on our solo careers a bit. Join us for our last set together @cottonfestjhb for now… We’ll be back together again soon! SIYABONGA”, Distruction Boyz shared.
The duo has been together for nearly 9 years. Their claim to fame was after releasing their first single that became the biggest hit in 2017 called ‘Omunye’. The same year, they released their debut album that made waves titled ‘Gqom Is The Future’. With so much success with their career, their work has been recognized and they have been nominated for multiple awards including the Dstv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards and South African Music Awards.
After receiving the devastating news, Gqom fans and supporters expressed how disappointed they are because of the split. Fans were expecting an album from the duo this year.
