DJ Hlo comes to Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode’s defense following Grammy win. Winner of Ukhozi FM song of the year and house DJ, DJ Hlo pleaded with people to stop dragging artists on social media.
The House music DJ took to social media to ask people to stop dragging others down when they share their wins. She added that people must applaud one’s success instead of pulling them down. Moreover, she shared that as a black people the notion that when someone succeeds we must envy and drag, must come to an end and give credits where its due.
“When people win… Let’s congratulate them! Dragging one another won’t lead us anywhere. Let’s support each other sizwe esimnyama”, DJ Hlo shared.
This comes after critiques threw ugly comments at Zakes, Nomcebo and Wouter Kellerman after winning a Grammy Award for Best Global Performance . Critiques stated that they are not familiar with the ‘Bayethe’ hit and that it did not deserve the award. Furthermore, they added that the artists allegedly had shady connections that made them win the award. In 2021, DJ Hlo won the Ukhozi FM song of the year. People expressed how they had never heard of the song before and she also did not deserve the title. Critiques compared the trio’s Grammy win to DJ Hlo’s Ukhozi FM win and said the trio “pulled a DJ Hlo” on a global plartform.
