Nomcebo Zikode Details How The Grammy Winning Song ‘Bayethe’ Came About
Nomcebo Zikode details how the Grammy winning song ‘Bayethe’ came about. Singer and Grammy award winner Nomcebo Zikode shared during her interview with Voice Of America, a Washington Television News Channel how grateful she was after winning a Grammy award. In her interview, she spoke a lot about how the song ‘Bayethe’ came about and how she started working with such outstanding artists, Zakes Bantwini and Wouter Kellerman.
The singer said she cannot believe that she won a Grammy, she felt like she was dreaming. As a young girl from Hammarsdale township she would not have thought that her music career would take her this far. “Honestly speaking, I’m over the moon. Coming from a small township in Hammarsdale I’ve never thought that one day I can be here representing my whole country South Africa. It’s something very big for me”, said Nomcebo.
The singer further added what inspired the song ‘Bayethe’ and what it is about. The song ‘Bayethe’ is about praising and worshipping God. The three of them, herself, Zakes and Wouter came up with the song. Wouter hunted Nomcebo down as he is a big fan of her music. Nomcebo shared that Wouter loved her voice and wanted to work with her. Zakes Bantwini was the one who got the two artists together and he also came on board.
“The song is about giving praise to God, it’s all about that. I was just giving praise to God. I remember Wouter had been looking for me asking people around where he can get this woman, I love her voice so much. He first heard my voice on the song ‘Jerusalema’. He met Zakes Bantwini and asked him to make it possible for him to make a song with this me. We did a song together, me Zakes and Wouter and here we are today”, said Nomcebo.
Nomcebo further added that she is not complaining that her biggest hit song ‘Jerusalema’ did not get nominated for the Grammys. This was God’s plan because now she won an award for her other song. ‘Jerusalema’ did not win a Grammy Award. I wrote and sang that biggest song ‘Jerusalema’. It took the world by storm, like we were not nominated for this song or maybe we didn’t get the Grammy award with this song. I think God knew that ‘Bayethe’ was coming and made sure that he put me in the right place at a right time so I’m not complaining…”, Nomcebo shared.
