Lloyiso Shares How He Feels About Being Labelled The South African Sam Smith
Lloyiso shares how he feels about being labelled the South African Sam Smith. Singer and songwriter Lloyiso shared how he feels about people calling him a South African version of an international artist.
Music fans often compare successful local artists to similar successful international artists. Lloyiso is one of the artists who took it upon himself to address the issue. Taking to his Twitter page, Lloyiso expressed how people underestimate him by calling him a version of someone else. People typically refer to the singer as the South African Sam Smith, who is an international sensation. People say Lloyiso is a version of him because of the type of music they both make and because of their voice similarities.
Lloyiso clearly stated that he is not the South African Sam Smith, he is Lloyiso. He also shared that South Africans downplay themselves by comparing themselves to international sensations. He further added that we can be original, do great and be unique. Additionally, he shared that no artist in South Africa is a version of someone else. “I’m not a South African Sam Smith. Why do we underestimate ourselves, we can be original and be great. And no South African artist is a version of someone else”, Lloyiso had tweeted.
Some tweeps shared the same sentiment with the singer, whilst others took to the comment section to justify why they normally say he is the version of a big international artist. They shared that they do not mean this in a bad way. It is just a way of telling him how good of an artist he is. “Lol we don’t mean it in a bad way. I get you though. It’s gona be tough to stop saying it… You’re just so good. And he is so good. You guys are so good. And I pray that 1 day you get to make a collaboration… It would be great for both of you cause you’re so good”, said one of his followers.
