Taking to her social media pages, Simphiwe Dana shared that she has been featured on a Netflix short film called African Folktales Reimagined :Mamlambo and it is already streaming on Netflix. The film is 20 minutes long. “I was already in the Eastern Cape for family businesses when I got a call to come and be part of this film. It was a nice 4 hour cruise to Port St John’s driven by @isuzu”, Simphiwe Dana shared.

According to Netflix SA, the film is about a lady named Gcobisa Yako from the Eastern Cape in Gqeberha. She has drive and hunger for representing and underprivileged communities. She is also inspired by stories that shift perception and created with intention.

The singer went on to share how her experience was working on the film with talented individuals. She shared that she loves being part of productions that tells stories about events that happen in the dark and this film was exactly that. “Retelling our stories without fear of misrepresentation or misinterpretation. Placing them in today’s narrative – as they are for all times. Humanising them and wrestling them away from the colonial gaze. This is what shapes us. This is who we are. Please enjoy this offering of African folktales from all over the continent. I feature in this one from South Africa. African folktales, not reimagined, but retold”, Simphiwe Dana shared.

She went on to say, “I have so many people to thank from the team. @gee_msft the creator. @zikhona_bali who taught me so much about acting. @motheomodaguru who affirmed me infront of the camera. @mphotwala for managing the integrity of the film. The whole team was wonderful and kind. Thank you @netflixsa @netflix for the opportunity to tell our stories”, Simphiwe Dana shared.

Simphiwe is indeed a multifaceted individual with multiple talents. From singing to acting. She has also proven to be one of the best in both crafts.
