Msaki Furious Over METRO FM Music Awards Erasing Her On Her Collaboration With Kabza De Small
Msaki furious over METRO FM music awards erasing her on her collaboration with Kabza De Small. Afro soul singer and songwriter Msaki addressed the issue of excluding women when it comes to music awards in the country.
Following METRO FM music awards announcing their 2023 nominees list, Msaki has taken to social media to share how she feels about one particular nomination. Msaki shared her frustrations referencing the song titled Khusela by Kabza De Small that was nominated under the category of best amapiano song. The song Khusela featured Msaki but on the list her name was not included.
Breaking her silence, Msaki tweeted that Metro FM needed to remake the list before Kabza De Small gets bashed for something he did not do. She also shared her frustrations with the lack of recognition of female artist in the music industry. She further added that the awards must do better and must not exclude or erase female artists in the industry.
“Perhaps @METROFMSA can fix this before these awards so that @KabzaDeSmall doesn’t get cooked for something he didn’t do. Also we are still having a conversation about the erasure of females in this industry in 2023? Do better @METROFMSA. Yes it’s me Msaki, as you were”, Msaki tweeted.
Detailing why she is taking a break from the music industry, Msaki shared that there were numerous reasons why she is taking a break including taking care of her mental health. In her rant towards METRO FM music awards, Msaki echored the sentiment that taking a step back from the music scene was a right thing to do for herself. She stated that the music politics was tiring and that they should not have to beg to be included.
“But when it comes to awards we miraculously dissappear. Also the intention should be inclusion on every level. We shouldn’t have to beg for it. Thank God I’m taking a break this is exhausting shame”, Msaki tweeted.
Additionally, Msaki is not the only female artist who felt that way. Singer and songwriter Ami Faku also commented on the post saying that what METRO FM did was distasteful. She also shared that it is like they are always trying to discredit their work and downplay the work they put into making music. “It’s so distasteful. You’d swear their intention is to downplay the efforts we invest in our work”, Ami Faku commented.
