Msaki Shares Her Opinion On Artists Joining Record Labels
Msaki shares her opinion on artists joining record labels. Concerned about artists, afro soul singer and songwriter Msaki shared how she feels about artists signing with record labels.
Lately artists have been parting ways with their record labels and some wanting to leave their record labels
Msaki added her piece about South African artists signing with record labels. She said that everytime artists tells her they have joined a record label in South Africa, she immediately feels bad for them as their career will most likely to collapse. However she is always ready to support artists when they finally choose to leave their record labels.
“When someone says I jst got signed in Sa, I first think – “my condolences to your career “ and then my mouth says “is this what you’ve always wanted?” And then I say “let’s hope for the best” Then I get ready for the calls to pep-talk them when the label is labelling”, Msaki tweeted.
She went on to add that even though being an independent artist may not be the best option for everyone, but signing with a record label is the worst option. Record labels are frustrating and confusing and lead artists into depression.
“Independence is not the best step for everyone – but labels are even fumbling, underserving, confusing , frustrating, shelving, benching, ghosting artists within contract that have services due. Making them second guess their talent, even driving them to depression”, Msaki tweeted.
Some of her followers partly agreed with the singer’s statement and shared that when an artist has no equipment or resources they will feel the need to join a record label so that their career will take off. Msaki responded by saying it is a wise move to grow your music career but urges artists to work on their craft and slowly build their brands as labels will exploit them.
“It is – it’s even wise. But these days fam I’d say work on your craft. The right song will get you enough traction so that you can build a little team. Baby steps. Labels don’t care. They get paid whether your album is out or not, pushed or not. Salary is in the bank”, Msaki tweeted.
