Pics! SA Grammy award winning artists honored by the Department of Arts and Culture. The Minister of Arts and Culture recently hosted an event which was set to celebrate and honour South African artists who received a Grammy award.
Earlier this year, South Africa witnessed yet other three proudly SA artists receive a Grammy award. The artists were added to the list of eight South Africans artists who have received the accolade. The minister decided to gather these artists together and celebrate them for representing and putting yet again South Africa onto the map. They gave the artists their flowers while they are still alive.
Taking to his Twitter page, the Minister of Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa shared a series of photos of the event they hosted to celebrate and commend Grammy winning artists for bagging a Grammy award. The event took place on the 20th of April 2023 at the Galleria Conference and Events Venue in Sandton, Johannesburg. The minister shared that the aim of the event was to honour those who represented South Africa with their phenomenal work and secured Grammy awards.
“Yesterday we gathered SA Grammy winning living and posthumous to recognize them for their outstanding representation of our country. We dare not only excel in writing tributes for them but also honor them while they walk amongst us. I thank them for accepting these honors”, Zizi Kodwa tweeted.
South Africa has 8 musicians thus far that have won a Grammy award. The list include Miriam Makeba, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Soweto Gospel Choir, Lebo Morake, Wouter Kellerman, Black Coffee, Nomcebo Zikode and Zakes Bantwini. Ladysmith Black Mambazo made history by winning the Grammy Awards five times followed by The Soweto Gospel Choir that has won the Grammy’s three times.
The artists took to their social media pages to express gratitude following being honored by the Department. ” We had the honor of spending the night with South African icons.
