Here’s What You Need To Know About The Fight Between Makhadzi And Her Former Record Label Open Mic Productions
Here’s what you need to know about the fight between Makhadzi and her record label Open Mic Productions. There is an on going battle between songstress Makhadzi and her former record label Open Mic Productions following her exit.
Makhadzi took to her social media pages to announce that she is no longer signed with Open Mic Productions. She decided not to renew her contract because she wants to handle her music career as an independent artist and grow her newly established record label called Makhadzi Entertainment. Tension brewed after the statement that Makhadzi had shared.
Open Mic Productions went on to dismiss the singer’s statement. A letter of her renewal contract from them to Makhadzi was blasted on social media. The letter stated that they are renewing and extending Makhadzi’s contract for another 3 years as their contracts are auto renewal.
“We as Open Mic Productions (the management) are pleased to inform you that we are here by renewing or extending the contract period for an additional period of 3 years with effect from the 9th of March 2023 in terms of clause 6.3 of the management agreement entered into between yourself and Open Mic Productions (PTY) LTD on the 10th of March 2020″, Open Mic Productions.
Sharing her frustrations, Makhadzi opened up on social media about what she had endured in the time she was signed with her former record label saying, “I signed with Open Mic only for three years. In this three years I dropped 4 albums. I have never received any cent of my sales. Some of my albums reached platinum, some gold. And a lot of hit songs that reached platinum and gold. But I continued working because all I wanted was to serve my contract, to avoid them saying I bridged the contract”, Makhadzi.
She continued saying she never received a copy of her contract when she asked for it. “I’m talking about the contract that I signed and no one allowed to give me a copy. I worked with Open Mic without a copy of my contract ever since they said they will send it. I kept on reminding them but no one was willing to send me my contract”, Makhadzi.
Makhadzi also shared that she never wanted to cause war but Open Mic pushed her to speak out when they disputed her statement. “All I wanted was to do my things in peace. That’s why I dropped my statement last week without pointing any fingers. Now they are disputing my statement saying my contract is auto renewal. My question is how possible is that to sign me and not give me my copy of my contract”, Makhadzi.
The singer further added that she was not aware of the clause that automatically renewed her contract. “So can I see those clause and how positive is that to renew my contract without sitting down with me? And how about my money from my albums because you haven’t sent any cent. How possible is that for you to renew my contract without coming to me. What if I’m not happy working with you”, Makhadzi.
Additionally, an audio clip of Makhadzi speaking to the managing director of Open Mic Productions, Nkateka Maluleke about the issue of her contract surfaced on social media. (Listen to the clip below).
