Lloyiso explains what he meant by wanting to be like Sam Smith. Afro pop singer and songwriter Lloyiso was displeased following a fan referring to him as South African Sam Smith and gave clarity to his old tweet about wanting to be like Sam Smith.
Lloyiso made trends list after setting the record straight and addressing the people that continued to refer to him as the local Sam Smith. Lloyiso had previously shared how he feels about the issue of people comparing local artists to big international artists. He expressed that he felt like people underestimate him by calling him a version of someone else and he shared that South Africans must stop downplaying themselves by comparing themselves to international stars.
“I’m not a South African Sam Smith. Why do we underestimate ourselves, we can be original and be great. And no South African artists is a version of someone else”, Lloyiso had tweeted.
Lloyiso had to address the matter once again after a fan continued to refer to him as a South African version of Sam Smith. A fan commented on the singer’s post with a text that read, “@Lloyiso_rsa is like the African Sam Smith. Lloyiso was not pleased by the comment and promised to block anyone that continues to call him the South African Sam Smith.”I’m gonna block you”, Lloyiso wrote.
Th singer urged people to change their mentality and shared that people referring to him as a version of someone else is inferiority complex. He also stated that he is a big fan of Sam Smith and he would like to be exceptional like him. Lloyiso responded to a tweep who brought up his old tweet about wanting to be like Sam Smith saying, “Like and a version of are 2 different things. It’s an inferiority complex to say” African version” of any artist. I’m a big fan of Sam Smith and like him I want to be great! This mentality needs to stop”, Lloyiso tweeted.
Tweeps were disappointed by the singer’s comment about blocking anyone who persist on calling him a version of someone else. They shared that the singer was unkind for threatening to block a fan. They further added that the fan was just giving him a compliment. “Human beings can be so dramatic at times. A person complimenting you doesn’t deserve such a response. You were just supposed to correct him or her nicely”, a tweep said.
