Yanga Sobetwa On Why Idols SA Winners Do Not Become Successful After The Show

Yanga Sobetwa on why Idols SA winners do not become successful after the show. Idols SA season 14 winner songstress, Yanga Sobetwa spoke out about why most artists that have won Idols SA do not make it outside of the competition.

Idols SA has produced artists that made it big since it launched in SA. Some are not fortunate enough to continue their journey as musicians. Some artists who won the Idols SA competition came out and spoke about their experiences including Khaya Mthethwa. Yanga Sobetwa also added her observation on the issue of artists from the competition not making it big in the music industry.

Speaking to Nkululeko on Nkululeko n Cultr podcast, Yanga opened up about her experience since winning Idols SA and what makes Idols SA winners unsuccessful after winning. She expressed how unhappy she was about what occurred after she was signed into the record label following her win. She shared that the promises and standards that she was promised were not met.

“Things did not go the way the contract stipulated. I think that’s where my disappointment comes from. I don’t think my disappointment comes with being in a record label. I think it’s certain things that were promised of certain standards that were portrayed, that were necessarily held up for every artist”, said Yanga Sobetwa.

The songstress further added her comment about how record labels hinder artists that have won IdolsSA from becoming outstanding artists in the music industry. She shared that the reason why Idols SA winners do not become megastars is because of the record labels that they are signed with after winning. She also stated that record labels do the bare minimum for Idols SA winners in comparison to the big artists that they are also signed with.

“The reason why I would say we don’t really get megastars on competitions like that is because of the contracts they get signed into, because as record labels they partner with, they already have artists that they have. So sometimes it happens that they’ll just shelve artists on to pf artists just for the sake of the agreement. They will make you release a song they will not push it that much. They’ll do the bare minimum that they’ll have to to honour the contract”, Yanga Sobetwa shared.

Moreover, the singer shared that she does not recommend upcoming artists who wants to make it big, join such competitions.
