Baby Momo Makes a Triumphant Return with Sophomore Album Kufezekile II

South African DJ and producer Baby Momo has returned stronger than ever with his sophomore album, Kufezekile II. Building on the success of his acclaimed 2024 debut Kufezekile, this deeply personal and spiritually resonant project blends emotive Afro-house and Amapiano, guiding listeners through themes of hardship, love, faith, and ancestral connection.
Kufezekile II is a collaborative masterpiece, featuring contributions from an impressive lineup of artists including Mthunzi, MaWhoo, Anele Zondo (Ney The Bae), Cnethemba Gonelo, Donald, Dinky Kunene, Mzizi, Cici, and Artwork Sounds. Each collaborator adds a unique voice and texture to the album, enriching its emotional depth and musical complexity.
The album shines through standout tracks such as “Bayabaleka,” which confronts betrayal and life’s struggles head-on, and “Ithuba,” a soulful celebration of gratitude and the preciousness of life. “Idlozi Lam” offers a powerful meditation on ancestry and spiritual identity, while “Ketla Dula” presents a tender and vulnerable love song. The track “Impilo” reflects on loss and the resilience born from grief. Each song tells a chapter of a larger story—raw, introspective, and deeply relatable.
Born Tidimatso Shika, Baby Momo hails from Soweto and currently operates out of Midrand. His journey in music began in 2017 as a DJ, transitioning into music production in 2018 under the MOMO PRODUCTION banner. Baby Momo’s signature sound, characterized by deep melodies, rich textures, and emotional rhythms, has set him apart as a rising force in South Africa’s vibrant music scene.
His breakthrough came with the track “Ngizwile,” which has accumulated over 9.6 million streams on Spotify, followed by the heartfelt “Mdali” with more than 500,000 streams. Currently, Baby Momo is collaborating with Amapiano superstar Kabza De Small on “Ngizwile 2.0,” signaling his steady climb within the genre.
With over 250,000 monthly listeners, Baby Momo has built a strong presence by working alongside top-tier artists like Stakev, Nicole Elocin, Shino Kikai, and Soa Mattrix. His ability to fuse sophisticated Amapiano sounds with deeply personal themes has earned him respect and admiration in the industry.
During the Kufezekile II listening session, collaborator Anele Zondo, known as Ney The Bae, made a surprise appearance. Excited about her contribution, she revealed, “I’m not just rapping—I’m singing on this one. This is my artistic flair, and I know it’s going to be number one.”
Reflecting on the album, Baby Momo shared, “Kufezekile II is bigger and more relatable than the first album. It’s about love, pain, faith, and achievement. People will hear themselves in this music.”
The name “Baby Momo” has roots in his early days on the streets of Soweto. “I used to roll with Kelvin Momo a lot. People started calling me ‘Baby Momo’—so I ran with it. Now it’s a brand. It’s who I am,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Baby Momo promises fans that Kufezekile II is just the beginning. With a joint EP and more music in the pipeline, the future looks bright for this talented producer and DJ. “Expect more,” he said, “because this journey has only just started.”
