Shebeshxt Responds After Viral Knife Video Sparks Controversy — No Criminal Case Opened

Controversial Limpopo rapper Shebeshxt has broken his silence following a viral video that appeared to show him swinging a large knife at a man in a club. The footage, which surfaced on social media over the weekend, ignited outrage among viewers and raised questions about the artist’s conduct.
However, authorities have since confirmed that no official complaint has been filed. “We have seen the social media post. However, according to our records, there’s no case opened against the artist,” said SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
The video, which many online have labelled “disturbing” and “vile,” was widely circulated and seemed to show the 28-year-old rapper—real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke—engaged in a heated moment, aggressively wielding what looked like a large knife during a live club appearance.
Amid growing concern from fans and critics alike, Shebeshxt has responded through his legal representative, Lot Ramusi, who claimed that the video has been taken out of context. Speaking to Daily Sun, Ramusi explained that the video in question was actually part of a staged scene.
“This is an old video,” said Ramusi. “He was with his friends in the Tzaneen area and the person perceived to be a victim is actually his friend, a fellow music producer. They were shooting content for a music video skit.”
Ramusi further stated that the knife used in the clip was not real and that no one was harmed during the filming. “He didn’t hurt anyone that day, and that was not even a real knife. Unfortunately, members of the public took it otherwise,” he said.
Shebeshxt, a well-known figure in the Lekompo music movement, has amassed a strong following for his raw street rap style and high-energy performances. However, his name has frequently been linked to controversial incidents. Earlier this year, another video emerged showing him slapping a man who attempted to film him without consent.
Following the backlash from the knife video, the rapper reportedly acknowledged how disturbing the footage might appear to the public. “He has acknowledged to me after viewing the video together that the public is well placed to be discomforted by the video and he must desist from behaving in a manner that will discomfort the public,” said Ramusi.
The legal representative added that Shebeshxt is committed to improving his public image and being more mindful of his influence, particularly on young fans. “He now understands that his following, whom are still very young and to whom he has much influence, may try to imitate his actions and so he needs to portray a responsible example,” said Ramusi.
As the debate continues online, authorities remain clear: no charges have been laid. Whether this will mark a turning point in Shebeshxt’s controversial career remains to be seen, but for now, the rapper seems ready to shift his focus toward being a more positive role model for his audience.
