Siphokazi Maraqana Embarks on a New Chapter as an Independent Artist

Celebrated Afro-soul singer Siphokazi Maraqana has announced a significant new chapter in her music journey — she is now an independent artist after parting ways with her former record label and management team following a 16-year relationship. The Ubuhle Bakho hitmaker made the heartfelt announcement in a candid Instagram post, marking a bold new beginning rooted in authenticity and artistic freedom.

“After many years of creative exploration, personal evolution and artistic resilience, I am an independent artist,” she wrote, adding that the decision comes from a place of deep respect for her supporters, the industry, and the truth of her own journey.

Siphokazi graciously acknowledged the role her previous label played in launching her music career, which has spanned nearly two decades and earned her a revered place in South Africa’s Afro-soul landscape. However, she did not shy away from reflecting on the hurdles she has faced along the way.

“My path hasn’t been without challenges, navigating industry limitations, creative constraints and the often complex realities of being a woman in music. But every obstacle has contributed to my growth,” she shared, speaking to the resilience that has shaped both her personal and professional evolution.

Now based in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape-born songstress remains committed to creating music that uplifts, heals, and resonates on a soul-deep level. With a renewed focus, she revealed that she is currently working on new collaborations and experimenting with her sound to usher in a fresh chapter of musical expression.

“To all who have supported me, thank you. To those just discovering my music, welcome. The road ahead is bright and I’m excited to share more music, more moments and more education through my music,” she said.

As she steps into this new era, fans can expect an even more empowered and creatively liberated Siphokazi — one who remains deeply rooted in her purpose and passionate about using music as a force for connection and transformation.
