DemiMa Embodies Spiritual Sound and Cultural Pride in 2025

Raised between the vibrant streets of Southwest London and the soulful landscapes of Kwa-Zulu, South Africa, DemiMa is carving a unique path as a multidisciplinary artist. Her creative range spans singing, poetry, writing, ambient soundscaping, event production, and yoga—each thread woven into her identity with intention and depth.

Now based in South Africa, DemiMa continues to grow a global presence. Her work in both music and wellness has drawn acclaim from international platforms including BBC Radio 1, NTS, MTV Africa, and Teen Vogue. Stepping into 2025, she brings with her a new offering: Duality Pt 2 Peace, an EP that embodies her evolution into serenity, spirituality, and soulful self-expression.

The project follows on from her ongoing “Duality” series and is a sonic reflection of stillness and intention. “I’m a revolutionary,” she says. “I spend a lot of time thinking about issues. I want to spend time thinking of how those issues can be solved. Even if that thought doesn’t turn into specific action, I think there is value in simply thinking of those solutions.”

DemiMa’s reflections on her South African roots reveal a desire to see local culture more boldly celebrated. “I hate that in South Africa, we are not proud of our own culture enough. When you go to different places, if there’s a food course, you’ll have Portuguese food, Greek food, Chinese food, and every other cuisine. We don’t celebrate ourselves enough.”

Music has been part of DemiMa’s life since before she was born. “My love for music started when my mother was pregnant with me. She used to play jazz and classical music to her belly. So it started there. When I came out into the world, I came into a musical family. So I was just surrounded by music all the time.” That early connection to jazz left a permanent imprint. “For me, jazz is like an exploration of freedom,” she explains. “I definitely aim to include more jazz – more classic jazz – as time develops.”

Though passionate, DemiMa’s path hasn’t been without challenges. Approached by major record labels as a teenager, she resisted the lure of commercial success. “There’s something within me that was just very resistant to the capitalist system and the reasoning behind it. I’m not a sell-out,” she says. “I chose the struggling route. It’s just more authentic to me.”

Her perspective on the music industry is clear: “It’s a mess. The music industry is anti-musicians. It literally hates musicians and is only interested in exploiting them.” Despite this, DemiMa remains an independent artist, determined to stay true to her values while hoping to someday collaborate with a like-minded team.

Her journey into meditative sound began with her yoga practice. As a certified instructor, she started blending ambient soundscapes into her sessions, discovering a new way to connect with her audience. This fusion of healing and music continues to shape her creative direction.

As 2025 unfolds, DemiMa is more than an artist—she’s a visionary. Through her blend of music, mindfulness, and activism, she offers a sanctuary of sound in a chaotic world. With Duality Pt 2 Peace, she invites listeners to slow down, breathe deeply, and embrace their own complexity. Her work is not just to be heard—it’s to be felt.
