Basetsana Kolwane Steps into the Spotlight with First Single

Former Idols contestant Basetsana Kolwane is launching her music career on her own terms. After featuring on Idols, The Voice, and collaborating with DJ Zinhle and Prince Kaybee, she is set to release her debut single, Amalobolo, on Friday, 29 August.
The 28-year-old from Klerksdorp, North West, told Daily Sun that recording her own music is a milestone. “It shows me that I’m growing. All my hard work over the years is paying off,” she said.
Basetsana started her music journey in 2014. She initially performed covers but wanted to create her own material. “I enjoy music because of the lyrics. I felt I needed to do more than just sing for my family at home,” she said.
She auditioned for The Voice of Africa and later for Idols in 2017, reaching the top 16 in season 13. During that period, she left her University of Johannesburg studies to focus on music and later attended AFDA to learn the business side and songwriting skills.
Now, Basetsana is ready to share her voice with the world. “I am working on my first ever single, called Amalobolo. It’s me doing something on my own, not as a featured artist. I’m nervous, but I’m excited,” she said.
She also has long-term plans. “I am definitely planning an EP and more music. The music will only stop when I stop breathing. Till my last breath,” Basetsana said.
