Flash Rock Titans MARENE Unleash Genre-Defying EP ‘Nevermine’

South African synth-rock trailblazers MARENE have roared back onto the scene with the release of their powerful new EP Nevermine, led by the emotionally charged single Finchie. Known for their signature fusion of theatrical visuals, thunderous riffs, and high-voltage synths, the five-piece band is once again proving why they remain at the forefront of the alternative rock movement in Africa.
Produced by MARENE’s frontman and visionary Tyler Duggan, and mastered by Eamon Gleeson, Nevermine is more than just a sonic collection — it’s a bold artistic statement. Across five tracks, the EP captures MARENE’s evolution while paying homage to their musical roots. The tracklist includes the deeply expressive Finchie, a flamboyant reimagining of Sabrina’s 80s hit Boys (Summertime Love), a haunting rendition of Reptile by The Church, and two recharged remixes of fan favourites — Something’s Out There and Bad Intentions — updated with cinematic intensity and enhanced soundscapes.
According to bassist Skye Nagel, “the EP is a controlled detour – sharp, sweet and loud all at once,” while Duggan calls it “our boldest detour yet… an experiment in where we’ve been and where we’re headed.” The lead single Finchie showcases the band’s ability to balance emotional depth with sonic power. With its soaring synths, gritty guitars, and raw, introspective lyrics, it reflects both vulnerability and resilience — and reaffirms MARENE’s role as genre innovators.
MARENE was born out of a vision Tyler Duggan once had — a dream of being in the kind of band he had never seen live. Since 2018, that vision has exploded into reality, setting stages ablaze and pushing musical boundaries with every release. From early singles like Time Machine and Thrills In The Night to the genre-blurring album Rising After Midnight, the band has maintained a fearless approach, blending glam rock swagger with synth-pop hooks and a heavy dose of theatrics.
Their live shows are nothing short of spectacular. From their national TV debut on Expresso to festival headline slots at RAMFest and WinterFest, MARENE has made their mark with pyrotechnics, pulsating crowds, and an unrelenting stage presence. The arrival of Nevermine and its thunderous lead single Finchie only proves they’re accelerating into an even bolder phase of their career.
Nevermine is not just an EP — it’s a declaration. It signals that MARENE is still evolving, still electrifying, and still ready to break all the rules. Now streaming across all major platforms, the band invites listeners to dive in, turn it up, and feel the energy.
