Samthing Soweto Reveals Why He Might Skip Music Videos for ‘Touch is a Move’

South African singer and storyteller Samthing Soweto, real name Samkelo Mdolomba, has revealed an unexpected side of his creative process. In a recent Instagram post, he admitted, “Mina, I’m actually camera-shy. So instead of shooting videos for ‘Touch is a Move’, I’m thinking I might just let it be and focus on the next album. Thoughts?”

The post quickly drew attention from his fans. Some respected his decision, while others urged him to reconsider, saying the music deserved visual storytelling. For many, “Touch is a Move: Good Morning” is more than just an album. It is an immersive experience that blends sound, emotion, and narrative.

Released on July 4, the project is Samthing Soweto’s first full-length album in five years. It spans 17 tracks and follows his 2020 EP “Danko!” and the acclaimed 2019 album “Isphithiphithi”. The music reflects themes of growth, resilience, childhood, and daily rituals. It is deeply introspective, layered with stories that connect personal history to universal truths.

The “Touch is a Move” concept takes inspiration from childhood games, where making a move means sticking to it without hesitation. Samthing Soweto uses this as a metaphor for commitment and the courage to act with purpose. The album unfolds like a day in the life, both in tone and in narrative flow.

Whether or not he decides to produce videos for the project, “Touch is a Move: Good Morning” has already made its mark as a bold and intimate return for one of South Africa’s most distinctive voices.
