South African Music Dominates Spotify 2025 Global Impact List

Spotify Africa has released the 2025 South African Global Impact List, showcasing the 30 Mzansi tracks making the biggest international impact in the first half of the year. The list highlights artists whose music is reaching new audiences beyond South Africa.
Leading the rankings are Tyla and DJ Maphorisa, two of the country’s most successful global acts. Tyla, who topped last year’s list with 12 tracks from her debut album, returns with three entries. Her 2025 entries include “Show Me Love” by WizTheMc featuring Tyla, “Bliss,” and the “Push 2 Start” remix with Sean Paul. These tracks showcase her ability to blend genres while maintaining her signature “popiano” sound.
DJ Maphorisa dominates the Amapiano segment with five tracks. Hits like “Abantwana Bakho” with Kabza De Small and Nkosazana Daughter, and “Sangena” with Toss have helped him bring South African dance music to global audiences. His consistent collaborations strengthen his position as a major cultural exporter.
The list emphasizes the importance of collaboration in global reach. From Major League DJs teaming up with UK singer Jorja Smith on “Come With Me” to Master KG’s Latin American crossover “Ngishutheni,” South African artists are merging styles to expand their international footprint.
Amapiano remains a dominant force, but hip hop and other genres are represented. Cassper Nyovest’s “Kusho Bani,” Yanga Chief’s “What If?” (Mngani), and Blxckie’s “Ngibolekeni” show hip hop’s global reach. Gospel and house also feature, with Kingdmusic and Luma Elpidio’s “Jesus” and THEMBA’s house remix of David Guetta and Sia’s “Beautiful People” highlighting the diversity of South African music.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music in Sub-Saharan Africa, says the list proves the power of collaboration and South African creativity. She notes that the country’s music is shaping dance floors, playlists, charts, and social media trends worldwide.
The 2025 Global Impact List confirms that South African music continues to break barriers, with genres like amapiano, house, gospel, and hip hop connecting with international audiences and solidifying Mzansi as a global musical force.
