Rubber Duc Returns With New Single ‘Muhammad Ali’ Ahead of Upcoming EP

South Africa’s alt-pop band Rubber Duc is back with their energetic new single, ‘Muhammad Ali,’ ahead of their upcoming EP, Old Money, set for release on 21 November 2025. The track showcases the band’s signature playful style, blending upbeat rhythms with thoughtful lyrical themes.
‘Muhammad Ali’ draws inspiration from the legendary boxer, using his imagery to explore emotional highs and lows in relationships. The band explained, “Ali was one of the greatest fighters of all time, and that imagery really connected with the song’s rhythm and phrasing. When the first line of the chorus, float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, came to us, it just clicked. It made sense to build the song around that energy, keeping it fun while still saying something real.”
The track is now available on all major streaming platforms.
Old Money will mark Rubber Duc’s first body of work in several years. The five-track EP features four new songs plus a bonus track. The band focused on organic creation, jamming together in a room and developing feels and chord progressions before layering production. They describe the process as refreshing and a reminder of why they love creating music as a group.
The title track, Old Money, is already a fan favourite during live shows. The track blends African-inspired elements with the band’s alt-pop sound and features both their original and current saxophonists performing together, a rare collaboration that holds special meaning for the band.
Over a decade into their journey, Rubber Duc emphasizes authenticity as their guiding principle. “There were moments where we chased trends rather than staying true to ourselves. Now we’re making music for us first, and that authenticity resonates more deeply with fans,” they said.
Fans have often credited Rubber Duc tracks like It’s Alright and Feet as sources of comfort and joy during challenging times. The band hopes Old Money will continue to serve as a companion for listeners, providing both advice and celebration through its music.
Rubber Duc will bring their new music to live audiences with a Western Cape tour in September, followed by shows in Dubai this November. December will feature additional festival and live dates across South Africa.
The band described this period as revitalizing, marking a new chapter in their musical journey. ‘Muhammad Ali’ sets the tone for the EP and promises fans an authentic, energetic, and reflective listening experience.
‘Muhammad Ali’ is available now on all major streaming platforms, leading the way for the full Old Money EP release on 21 November 2025.
