Tim Welsh and Thabie Ngethe Release New Three-Step Anthem “Ungalibali”

Renowned saxophonist and former Goodluck member Tim Welsh has teamed up with celebrated South African vocalist Thabie Ngethe to release their powerful new single, Ungalibali. The title translates to “don’t forget,” and the song was born from a viral TikTok duet challenge that revealed the deep connection South Africans have with fresh, homegrown talent.
Welsh recalls the moment that sparked the project. “When I saw Thabie’s duet, I immediately knew she was the vocalist I had been searching for. There is something so beautiful about a song sung in isiZulu, paired with the warmth of a saxophone. I never imagined that an authentic love song on a three-step beat could sound this good. Thabie truly breathed life into it.”
The first demo of Ungalibali was created in 2022. Welsh spent time refining the track, ensuring it had the right rhythm and emotional depth. “I wasn’t in a rush to complete the song. I take my creative process seriously, and so does Thabie. Crafting such a beautiful love song takes time, and finding the right rhythm was key,” he explains.
Ungalibali is built around heartfelt lyrics that echo timeless themes of love and devotion. Lines such as “Ungalibali, ngingowakho Dali” (Don’t forget, I am yours darling) and “Ilezinyembezi sezesuliwe ngenxa yakho Dali” (These tears have been wiped away, and it’s because of you, darling) capture the intimacy of the story. Through her performance, Thabie reassures her love interest of her readiness to fully commit after years of solitude, reflecting on the healing power of love.
With its release, Ungalibali is already receiving strong support on radio and streaming platforms worldwide. Its blend of modern three-step rhythms, soulful vocals, and the warmth of Welsh’s saxophone positions it as a track with serious chart potential.
Tim Welsh is widely recognized for his online series Tim Takes, where he reimagines South African hits through his signature saxophone sound. His unique style fuses amapiano, Afro-house, and jazz, setting him apart as a versatile solo artist. Since his departure from Goodluck, Welsh has been steadily building a solo career, and Ungalibali marks the beginning of several new projects he plans to release.
Thabie Ngethe is a versatile Afro-soul and jazz vocalist whose work also spans gospel, Afro-house, and African traditional music. Influenced by icons like Busi Mhlongo, Miriam Makeba, Letta Mbuli, and Yvonne Chaka Chaka, she has collaborated with both international and local artists including German multi-instrumentalist Ruben Thomas and Zimbabwean producer Meizak Music. Her career includes performances across Southern Africa and collaborations with respected musicians such as Mbuso Khoza, Madala Kunene, Nomalanga Hlubi, and Wandile Method.
Ungalibali is more than just a collaboration. It is a meeting of two strong artistic voices, bridging genres and cultures, and offering listeners a love song that feels both fresh and timeless. As momentum builds, the single signals an exciting new chapter for both Welsh and Ngethe in the South African music landscape.
