Vusi Nova Narrates Patience and Faith in New Album ‘Promises’

Renowned South African singer Vusi Nova is set to release his 13-track album, ‘Promises,’ on Friday, 12 September. The album explores the intersection of hope, faith, and life’s commitments, offering listeners an immersive journey through emotions and rhythm.

‘Promises’ is Vusi Nova’s second release under his label, Nova Sounds, reinforcing his commitment to music that carries depth and meaning. The album blends rhythm and blues, gospel, jazz, and funk, highlighting Vusi’s refusal to be confined to one genre.

“I started working on some of these songs a long time ago and just kept them because I guess I wasn’t ready to share them, or it wasn’t the right time yet. Writing this album has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I had to tap into feelings that were blocked out a long time ago,” Vusi Nova explained.

The album follows the success of his August single, ‘Phendula,’ and goes beyond romantic themes. It addresses the promises we make to ourselves, the commitments we keep with loved ones, and the faithfulness of God. “Promises / Izithembiso is my way of honoring those truths and sharing them with you, in the only way I know how. Through music,” Vusi said.

Vusi Nova discussed the significance of the album title. “Life is built on promises. The ones we make to ourselves, to the people we love, and sometimes even the ones we break. Through these songs, I wanted to explore the different sides of that—the joy, the heartbreak, and the healing that comes with life’s commitments.”

The album also emphasizes spiritual resilience. Unlike human promises, God’s promises are steadfast. Vusi shared that this faith has guided him through doubt and challenges, and he hopes listeners will find the same strength.

The album features a standout collaboration with American R&B singer Anthony Hamilton on ‘Black Sweater.’ Vusi said, “Anthony and I have been talking for a while now about getting in the studio, and we finally did. The energy in the studio was amazing. We just fed off each other.”

Running his own label has taught Vusi patience and the value of growth. He works closely with his artists, nurturing talent while navigating the challenges of music management. “Watching them grow has been so fulfilling. I’ve had to learn patience and enjoy the process,” he said.

Vusi Nova reflects on his personal growth since starting his music career. He describes a journey marked by experience and maturity, with an openness to future life lessons that will continue to inspire his songwriting.
