Lower Hollow Emerges Stronger with Threnody: Songs of Perseverance

Fast, aggressive, atmospheric, and heartfelt – these words define Johannesburg’s Lower Hollow. Since forming in 2022, the band has released two full-length albums, toured extensively across South Africa, and built a distinct presence in the atmospheric metalcore scene.

Their lyrics delve into anger, pain, death, loss, and alienation, translating raw emotion into cathartic soundscapes that go beyond genre limits. Fans have come to expect intense performances paired with music that resonates on a deeply personal level.

Lower Hollow’s latest release, Threnody: Songs of Perseverance, marks a significant evolution from their 2023 album, Threnody: Songs of Fortitude. Created during a period of transition, the album reflects change, resilience, and renewed creative energy.

Just eight months after Fortitude’s release, the band faced a major shift when their vocalist stepped down to focus on fatherhood. In the middle of touring and promoting the album, Lower Hollow began searching for a new voice, eventually finding Kathryn Georgina.

Kathryn’s arrival reshaped the band’s dynamic, injecting new energy and perspective. Inspired by live performances with Georgina, the band revisited Fortitude’s material and reimagined it, creating a version of the album that better captured their live sound.

“Believing in our sound, the songs, and our vision, we decided to offer our audience a version of the album that ultimately reflected the live sound we’d since adopted,” the band explains. “We’ve always been a band that served the songs, and our melodic songwriting process allowed these tracks to take a different shape while still honouring the original sentiment.”

Threnody: Songs of Perseverance delivers atmosphere, punishing breakdowns, and emotional depth that lingers long after the music ends. It is more than a reworked album; it is a statement of Lower Hollow’s resilience and creative determination.
