Thandeka “De Rose” Cele Releases Debut Solo Single “Emsotra”

Umlazi-born singer, songwriter, and composer Thandeka “De Rose” Cele has announced her debut solo single, “Emsotra.” The track is available on all streaming platforms today through Haus of Culture, distributed by gamma Africa. “Emsotra” is the first release from her upcoming project, 9 to 5, introducing listeners to her distinct solo artistry.
De Rose is no stranger to the South African music scene. She has featured in celebrated collaborations with Sfarzo Tee, DJ Jaivane, Frank Mabeat, Gaba Cannal, and Soa Mattrix. With “Emsotra,” she delivers a deeply personal Amapiano anthem that merges her Durban roots with the vibrant energy of Soweto.
The story behind “Emsotra” reflects themes of belonging and connection. “As a girl born and raised in Umlazi, when I went to Soweto (Emsotra) for the first time, I felt like I was still in my hood – just a different language. Besides that, I felt like I belong. Emsotra is home,” De Rose shares. The track captures the spirit uniting two of South Africa’s most iconic townships.
Producers Thebza and Frank Mabeat shaped the single’s soundscape, blending soulful chords, deep basslines, and hypnotic percussion. “Thebza and Frank Mabeat made it magical,” De Rose recalls. “I wasn’t feeling well that day, but the moment I stepped to that mic, I knew what I wanted and how I wanted it.” Her raw vocal delivery and signature warmth dominate the record, conveying both grit and grace.
For De Rose, “Emsotra” is more than a place. “You can take me out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of me,” she says. The track embodies a feeling, a rhythm, and a sense of home that transcends borders and sound.
Now officially signed to Haus of Kulture, De Rose is positioning herself as one of South Africa’s most distinctive Amapiano voices. With over 120 000 monthly listeners on Spotify and growing, she is proving that authenticity resonates widely while remaining grounded in her roots.
