Bongeziwe Mabandla Returns Home for Intimate Solo Tour

After captivating audiences across Europe, the US, and Latin America, singer-songwriter Bongeziwe Mabandla has returned home for his highly anticipated solo tour. Known for his blend of folk, spirituality, and emotional depth, Mabandla continues to redefine contemporary South African music with his raw storytelling and soul-stirring performances.

His return marks a significant moment for fans eager to experience his artistry in a more intimate setting. The tour follows a remarkable international run where Mabandla earned widespread acclaim for his evocative live shows and his ability to connect deeply with audiences regardless of language or culture.

Speaking about the concept behind the solo tour, Mabandla explained that performing “solo” extends beyond the stage. “Solo means all by myself, and I feel the term explains both on and off stage for me. I had to do a lot of things by myself, and preparing for this tour, I rehearsed and prepared by myself. So, it was quite a personal journey,” he said. This return to simplicity reflects his desire to reconnect with his roots and present his music in its purest form.

Having spent much of the year performing internationally, Mabandla shared how global experiences have shaped his outlook. “I get to see and take a lot in, and I think that influences me in so many ways. I spent a lot of time outside the country this year, and it really changed the way I see a lot of things now. I feel I have a global understanding of things, and I have exposed myself to so much.”

Mabandla’s next chapter includes new music inspired by family and identity. He revealed his upcoming song, Yalwa, was inspired by his niece and nephew. “I wanted to write something that could help them be aware of their value, and this song was born from that idea. It’s about destiny and lineage,” he said. The track continues Mabandla’s signature blend of introspection and cultural awareness, but he hints at sonic evolution. “It’s very important for me to bring something new with each project and explore different sounds. So this new album is going to have some surprises for sure.”

Reflecting on his acclaimed 2023 album amaXesha, Mabandla credits the project for expanding his reach and deepening his artistic growth. “The amaXesha album really propelled me to a wider audience, and it opened a lot of doors for me,” he said. The album achieved notable milestones, including his COLORS performance of Sisahleleleni, being named Global Album of the Month by the UK’s The Guardian, and winning Best African Pop at the 2024 Metro FM Music Awards.

As he prepares to reconnect with South African audiences, Mabandla hopes the solo tour will offer fans a deeply personal experience. “I hope they get to experience a more close-up side to me and feel my gratitude and love. The exchange between audiences and artists is huge. I also want to give a message of hope through the difficult times,” he said.

Bongeziwe Mabandla’s solo tour marks more than a homecoming; it is a reflection of his journey toward artistic clarity and spiritual depth. With new music on the horizon and an ever-expanding global audience, he continues to stand as one of South Africa’s most powerful and authentic musical voices.
