Danny K to Release 25-Year Music Retrospective Album “Kollection”

South African singer and songwriter Danny K, born Daniel Koppel, is set to release a new album, “Kollection,” on November 28, celebrating 25 years in the music industry. The album features digitally remastered versions of his greatest hits alongside a few new surprises for fans.
Leading up to the release, Danny K has shared reflections on the stories behind some of his most iconic songs. One notable example is his 2005 hit “Unfrozen,” which was created with producer Pete Martin using a Thomas Newman sample from the film “Road To Perdition” featuring Tom Hanks. “We were instantly drawn to it and wanted to try to use it as the base for a haunting pop song. By the end, we realised unbelievably we had achieved it, and ‘Unfrozen’ was the result,” he explained. The song went on to become the third single from his album This Is My Time after Newman personally cleared the sample.
Throughout his career, Danny K has collaborated with some of South Africa’s most influential artists. In 2003, he worked with the late Johnny Clegg on “Who’s That Girl?” The collaboration came about when Danny heard an R&B track Johnny had written and felt compelled to contribute. “I phoned Johnny and asked if he would let me record a version on top of his original idea and feature him. He agreed with his usual generosity,” Danny recalled.
Danny K also had a close working relationship with the late kwaito star Mandoza, beginning with Coca-Cola’s collaborative project on the song “Music.” Their partnership led to a SAMA-winning album, Same Difference. “Mandoza’s absence sits heavy on my heart. I feel grateful for every moment shared with one of South Africa’s greatest musical sons,” he said.
Another notable collaboration was with the late hip-hop artist HHP on the track “I Like Yo Style.” Danny K built the song around an old-school jazz sample and credited HHP for bringing energy and humor that elevated the track.
Earlier this month, Danny K released a remix of his song “Hurts So Bad” by Sketchy Bongo, continuing to engage fans with fresh versions of his classics. Beyond music, he has grown as an entrepreneur, serving as CEO of KD Foods, which acquired Sweets from Heaven.
“Kollection” will be released on November 28, offering fans a curated journey through Danny K’s 25-year career while celebrating the collaborations, memories, and milestones that have shaped his music.
