Ladysmith Black Mambazo Returns to KZN for Special Homecoming Concerts

Five-time Grammy Award-winning isicathamiya group Ladysmith Black Mambazo is heading back to their roots in KwaZulu-Natal following a series of sold-out performances in Johannesburg and Cape Town celebrating their 65-year anniversary.

The legendary group, also known as Amambazo Amnyama from Ladysmith in the KZN Midlands, will perform a special two-day live concert at The Playhouse in Durban on 22 and 23 November. These concerts mark a homecoming for the group, reconnecting with the community where their musical journey began.

The ensemble recently returned from a brief tour in Mauritius and is now continuing their anniversary celebrations, starting from KwaZulu-Natal before heading to Tshwane. Group manager Xolani Majozi described the Durban concerts as a special occasion for both the group and their fans.

“After a series of sold-out performances in Joburg and Cape Town, the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo is returning to their roots in KZN for a special homecoming concert series at The Playhouse. After the Playhouse show, Ladysmith Black Mambazo will be in Pretoria at the State Theatre on 29 and 30 November,” Majozi said.

Fans can expect the group to deliver their signature harmonies and spiritual storytelling that have earned them international acclaim and multiple Grammy Awards. With a career spanning over six decades, Ladysmith Black Mambazo continues to promote peace, unity, and cultural pride through their music.

The concerts also reflect the group’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent. Through their partnership with the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Ladysmith Black Mambazo runs the Mobile Academy, a program dedicated to discovering and developing aspiring artists. Several graduates of the academy have gone on to achieve recognition both locally and internationally.

The upcoming Durban concerts are set to be inspiring and unforgettable, offering fans a chance to experience the enduring legacy of one of South Africa’s most iconic musical ensembles while celebrating the cultural roots that shaped their remarkable journey.
