Limpopo Artist Kharishma Earns Two Samas Nominations Amid Tragic Week

Limpopo singer Kharishma, born Melita Makoma Ribane, has earned two nominations at the 2025 South African Music Awards. She is up for Music Video of the Year and Record of the Year for her hit single Chokeslem.

The nominations arrive amid a tragic week for the Lekompo star. On October 31, Kharishma was involved in a fatal car accident at the intersection of Grobler and Magazyn Street. The crash claimed the life of one of her friends and left Kharishma and another friend severely injured. Her family confirmed that she is receiving medical care and thanked the public for the support and well wishes they have received during this difficult time.

Chokeslem dominated the charts last year, winning Song of the Year on Thobela FM and Capricorn FM. The track’s popularity has continued into 2025, earning Kharishma critical recognition and securing her SAMAs nominations. The song’s combination of catchy melodies, relatable lyrics, and engaging visuals has made it a standout in South African music this year.

While Chokeslem is the single receiving award recognition, Kharishma’s 2025 releases have also gained significant attention. Tracks like Wa Inama and Fly High Lekompo have gone viral, further cementing her reputation as a rising star in the Limpopo music scene. Despite the personal challenges following the accident, Kharishma’s music continues to resonate with fans nationwide, showcasing her talent and perseverance in the South African music industry.
