Moonchild Sanelly Celebrates 38 with Music, Style and Impact

MOONCHILD Sanelly, South Africa’s trailblazing performer, turns 38 on Thursday, 20 November, marking a year of growth, creativity, and giving back. “This birthday feels different. I’m more grounded, more sure of who I am, and more excited about what’s coming,” she told 947.
Born Sanelisiwe Twisha in Port Elizabeth, Moonchild’s artistry began early. Surrounded by dancers and musicians, she choreographed, performed at talent shows, and taught herself piano, laying the foundation for the bold, fearless performer she is today. Known for her electric blue hair, boundary-pushing style, and innovative sound, she has collaborated with Beyoncé, Gorillaz, Wizkid, and DJ Maphorisa. In 2025, she released her third album, Full Moon, further cementing her position in the South African music scene.
Moonchild also uses her platform to make a difference. She won R150 000 on Deal or No Deal Celebrity SA and donated it to U-Turn, a homelessness organisation. “Just knowing there are spaces like that for people to fall back on, they don’t just leave you hanging,” she explained.
Reflecting on her career, Moonchild says, “I’m exactly where I want to be. Every time I clock something, I’m ready for my next one.” She describes music as home: “I just love what I do. I’m always working. It’s home for me.”
She embraces her identity fully. “I feel like my mum knew the magic she birthed. I’m completely fine with just being myself,” she said. Her ambitions go beyond personal success: “If my wins can help someone else stand up again, then that’s the kind of impact I want to make.”
In 2025, Moonchild Sanelly continues to push boundaries, inspire fans, and give back, proving why she remains one of South Africa’s most dynamic and influential artists.
