Vaughn Prangley Returns With Powerful New Single ‘Monsters Den’

South African-born, Dubai-based singer-songwriter Vaughn Prangley steps into a bold new chapter with the release of Monsters Den, a haunting and atmospheric single that explores resilience, self-discovery, and the return to music after personal adversity.
Vaughn first rose to prominence in South Africa with his debut single Oasis (2020), which reached No. 1 on Mix FM. He followed this with four more charting singles, the EP Where It Begins (2021), and his debut full-length album Destination Unknown (2022). Known for his deep, soulful voice and vulnerable songwriting, Vaughn quickly became one of alternative music’s most promising young artists.
In 2023, while working abroad, Vaughn suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear during a diving accident. The experience fundamentally changed how he perceived sound and left him questioning his future in music. “Music had always been my outlet. My way of understanding the world,” he recalls. “Losing part of my hearing shook me to my core. For a while, I genuinely believed I might never make music the same way again.”
For a period, he stepped away from creating music. Over time, however, the pull to write and produce returned, gradually becoming impossible to resist.
Monsters Den reflects that journey. Written and self-produced over eight months, the track layers haunting vocals, reverberant guitars, shimmering synths, and even church bells to craft a soundscape that is both dark and luminous. The song captures moments of doubt, bursts of rebellion, and ultimately, a refusal to stay broken. “The monsters are your thoughts, and the den is your mind,” Vaughn explains. “You’re trying to break free from the loop of doubt and get back to the place where you belong. For me, that place has always been music. The song isn’t about being a victim, it’s about resilience.”
The production process mirrored the song’s theme. Vaughn recorded multiple takes, often stepping away in frustration before returning with renewed determination. “It became more than just a song. It was proof to myself that I could still do this. That fight, that stubbornness … it’s in every note,” he says.
With Monsters Den, Vaughn reintroduces himself as an artist who has reclaimed his craft. He plans to follow the single with an EP in 2026, combining the atmospheric depth of Monsters Den with more upbeat, blues-driven tracks.
Monsters Den is out today, 28 November, across all major streaming platforms, marking a new chapter defined by creative independence, perseverance, and a renewed artistic purpose.
