Amy Tjasink Releases Summer Anthem “Feels Like Mzansi” Inspired by Mango Groove

South African singer-songwriter Amy Tjasink returns with her new vibrant summer track, “Feels Like Mzansi,” a re-imagining inspired by the Mango Groove classic, “Special Star.” The release is part of a Gallo Records project aimed at bridging South Africa’s musical legacy with contemporary sounds.
Amy Tjasink found inspiration for the song while abroad. She recalls, “I was sitting in the middle of Istanbul International Airport, exhausted after a long writing trip in Europe. All I wanted was to be back home, back to my people, the warmth of the sun, and the friendliness that makes South Africa so special. That’s when the song hit me and I realised what Mzansi really feels like.”
Back in Cape Town, she collaborated with Erin Elliot and Jono Greyling at Pretty Loud HQ. Amy explains, “I had this line running through my head: ‘Been gone too long, my roots keep calling me back.’ From there, the rest just flowed. Within hours, the song poured out of us. It was pure magic and a true love letter to South Africa.”
“Feels Like Mzansi” fuses nostalgic African rhythms with shimmering pop production and Amy’s soulful vocals. The track captures the warmth, spirit, and rhythm of South Africa, creating a song that is both personal and universally uplifting.
Claire Johnston of Mango Groove praised the track, saying, “It’s exciting to hear ‘Special Star’ hooks used in such a fresh, fun way, the perfect summer song! Looking forward to hearing ‘Feels Like Mzansi’ blasting on the radio this December.”
The song is now available on all major streaming platforms. Amy Tjasink adds, “I just want to make South Africa proud. I want people to remember how awesome our country is, how special our people are, and to feel that same sense of joy and pride that I felt writing this song. From our hearts to South Africa, we hope you love it.”
