Metro FM Music Awards to Return to Durban in 2026

The Metro FM Music Awards will return to Durban in 2026, signaling a major chapter for one of South Africa’s largest music events. The announcement was made at a media launch at the Oyster Box in Umhlanga on Thursday, December 11. The evening was hosted by Hope Mbhele and DJ Sabby and set the tone for what organisers expect to be a landmark event for the city.

Durban will host the awards for the next three years, establishing a long-term partnership aimed at fostering local talent and boosting the regional creative economy. Metro FM business manager Kina Nhlengethwa explained the decision to select Durban as the host city. She said that after three successful years in Mpumalanga, Durban offered both history and opportunity.

“Durban has welcomed us with open arms. The last awards here were in 2017, and the first awards were launched in Durban. From 2026, it will be home for the next three years,” she said. Nhlengethwa also highlighted the broader benefits of the awards, including entertainment, job creation, and support for small businesses and emerging artists.

Local artists and industry figures expressed strong support for the return. Tzozo said the announcement has created excitement across KwaZulu-Natal. He encouraged fans to participate actively and praised the awards for motivating emerging talent.

DJ Sox noted the positive impact on music and tourism. He said the awards generate creative momentum and push artists back into the studio. He reflected on his own past success at the awards, saying it inspires new projects.

Actress and presenter Sthandwa Nzuza highlighted the energy the event brings to the city, noting its significance for Durban artists and tourism. DJ Sobz also expressed support, emphasizing the boost it provides to the creative sector.

The Metro FM Music Awards’ return to Durban promises to elevate the city’s music scene, attract tourism, and inspire a new generation of artists. With three years of confirmed hosting, Durban is set to become a central hub for South Africa’s music industry.
