Investment Banker Sam Mokorosi Launches Music Career with Five-Single Series

After years of writing songs in private, investment banker Sam Mokorosi is ready to share his music with the world. Some of his compositions have been developing for more than 25 years. Mokorosi’s journey into music was sparked by his 20th wedding anniversary, when he wrote “Tell Your Mama We Made It” as a gift to his wife. The positive response inspired him to release a series of singles throughout 2026.

By day, Mokorosi works in strategy, risk, and investment. By night, he steps into songwriting and vocals, presenting a side of himself that few have seen. He aims to bring authenticity to every part of his life, whether in church, boardrooms, or on stage.

Born in Lesotho and raised in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, Mokorosi draws inspiration from his environment. Early experiences, including witnessing public infrastructure decay, influenced tracks like “Profit & Politics.” His teenage love story, which has endured since age 16, also shapes much of his music. Mokorosi describes his work as a celebration of resilience, emphasizing that bright days outweigh dark ones.

“Tell Your Mama We Made It” blends reflection and celebration, highlighting personal milestones and quiet victories. Instead of a traditional album, Mokorosi will release a curated series of singles, each representing a chapter in a larger narrative. “I view this series as a camera lens zooming out,” he explains, “starting intimately and ending with a panoramic view of where we come from.”

The series opens with the celebratory “Tell Your Mama We Made It,” followed by the reflective “How Much I Miss You,” and “Sunflower Girl,” timed for Valentine’s Day. It then shifts outward with “Profit & Politics,” inspired by a visit to a neglected train station in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, exposing the effects of greed and corruption. The final single, “Motherwell,” pays homage to the 1976 student uprisings in South West Townships, scheduled for release around Youth Day to highlight resilience and hope.

Mokorosi credits his professional experience with teaching the importance of teamwork. The series is a collaborative effort involving producers, musicians, and marketing professionals. His brother, Kekente, a producer and DJ, is working on remixes to expand the series’ reach. Mokorosi describes the collection as bridging the man who loves his wife with the man who loves his country, presenting his “Full Self.”

This five-single series positions Mokorosi as a new voice in South African music, offering a personal and socially conscious perspective while celebrating love, resilience, and national pride.
