Tyla Announces Second Studio Album ‘A-Pop’ Following Grammy Win

Fresh off her second Grammy win, South African singer Tyla has officially revealed the title of her highly anticipated sophomore album. The 24-year-old artist shared the news backstage at the 2026 Grammy Awards, shortly after receiving the trophy for “Best African Music Performance” for her hit single “Push 2 Start”. During interviews, Tyla expressed regret for missing her moment on stage to accept the award and deliver a speech, but she used the opportunity to give fans long-awaited news. “I just want to announce something,” she said. “My sophomore album drops this summer, and it’s called ‘A-Pop’.” She confirmed the release will arrive in the summer, though she did not provide a specific date.

In a pre-Grammy interview with Rolling Stone, Tyla reflected on her growth since her debut album. She described her first project as coming together during a chaotic, whirlwind period. “The first album was very hectic, almost overnight craziness. Now I feel settled and clearer about my direction and what I want to say,” she explained. Work on “A-Pop” began in 2024, and Tyla admitted she initially didn’t know what the album would sound like. Over time, she allowed the music to evolve naturally, creating a project that she describes as fresh, personal, and authentically “Tyla”. “I feel like I just did something really fresh, and so Tyla,” she said. She emphasized that this process helped her feel like a real artist beyond the glamour of success.

The new album marks a shift in her artistry rather than a reinvention. Tyla describes it as reflecting her growth over the past few years. “I was 21, 22 when everything started. Now I’m 24. I feel like a woman. I have other things to say and other vibes I want to give,” she explained. Fans had already caught glimpses of the album title in previous visuals, including the music video for “Chanel,” where “A-Pop” briefly appears. The album promises a blend of Tyla’s signature pop, R&B, and amapiano influences, continuing the sound that has earned her acclaim both in South Africa and internationally.

The release in the northern hemisphere summer will coincide with winter in South Africa. Tyla also confirmed plans for additional “popstar stuff” after the album launch, including tours and other projects. With “A-Pop,” Tyla is poised to expand her global presence while defining the next chapter of her career.
