Sony Brings the Bass Home: ULT TOWER MAX, 7 and 5 Land in South Africa

Sony has fired up the festive season early. Earlier this week, the brand launched three new speakers in its ULT POWER SOUND series, the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5, at an invite-only event for media, influencers and guests at Sourcefin in Sandton.

Running under the theme “Massive Bass. Ultimate Vibe.”, the night mixed live performances, hands-on demos and a conversation about where South African music stands globally.

Chronical Deep fronts the campaign

Chronical Deep was unveiled as the featured artist. A pre-recorded film showed him putting the speakers through their paces, and on stage he walked the crowd through his creative process and showed how fast a DJ setup comes together with the ULT range.

For him, the appeal is simplicity. “You plug in, press a button and the sound is there,” he said, adding that Sony has clearly listened to artists, from the DJ inputs to the bass that moves a room.

SA sound, global reach

A panel featuring DJ/producer Soulfreakah, event and sound entrepreneur DJ Moja TK and Sony Middle East and Africa Marketing Director Murat Gebeceli dug into how Amapiano, Lekompo, House and Bacardi are shaping worldwide trends, and how digital platforms are opening doors to new audiences.

Gebeceli said South Africans are passionate about music and shared experiences, and that Sony wants artists and DJs to spend their energy on the music rather than on setup. He added that the company is proud to return with a fresh ULT lineup in time for summer.

Hands-on with the tech

Guests got to test the features themselves: 360° Party Sound, the ULT1 and ULT2 bass modes, karaoke, DJ connectivity, Party Chain via Auracast™ and app-controlled lighting. The night also featured a cypher challenge headlined by professional dancer and choreographer Leon Andrew Labuschagne with Five6seven8 Dance Studio, while a live beatboxer set the tone.

Built for the sounds we love

Sony says the ULT range is tuned for local tastes. The ULT1 and ULT2 modes deliver the deep, punchy low end that Amapiano, Lekompo, House and Bacardi demand. XLR and RCA inputs let DJs plug in and play without a wall of gear or a tangled rig, a single ULT button switches sound modes, and the Sony Sound Connect app puts control in the artist’s hands.

The lineup

ULT TOWER MAX is the flagship, made for big parties and DJ sets. It has three woofers, an upgraded ULT DUCT and a high-powered amplifier for heavy bass with minimal distortion, while four tweeters and two mid-range speakers keep vocals crisp. It offers four sound modes (ULT1, ULT2, FLAT and LIVE) plus 360° Party Sound, and Party Chain via Auracast™ can sync music and lighting across up to 100 speakers. The splashproof top panel can handle spilled drinks.

ULT TOWER 7 is the versatile all-rounder. It has ULT1, ULT2, FLAT and LIVE1 modes, orientation-aware tuning for full sound in any position, up to 30 hours of battery life, 180 minutes of playback from a 10-minute charge and IPX4 water resistance.

ULT TOWER 5 is the compact option for house parties and braais. It delivers up to 300 W of power, up to 20 hours of battery, 100 minutes of playback from a 10-minute charge, IPX4 water resistance and three lighting modes.

All three speakers accept DJ gear via XLR and RCA, plus Bluetooth and USB. The ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 5 also support karaoke connections.
