The Battle Of “As’phelelanga” Escalates As Maskandi Artist Turn To SAMRO. It is now evident that the war about the hit single Asphelelanga is far from over since all parties involved are adamant on their views in regards to the ownership of the song.
Maskandi star Celazimnike Mtshali came forward with claims that Vusi Nova ‘stole’ the song Asphelelanga from him and has turned to SAMRO (South African Music Rights Organisation) to prove his case and possibly reap the benefits.
Mtshali said he was not aware of the song until his fans told him about it.
“I heard the song for the first time two weeks ago on Ukhozi FM, and they played all the songs including mine. I do not know this Vusi and we have never met. I will appreciate if he can credit me because his song sounds exactly like mine.”
Samro chief executive Nothando Migogo said in a situation where a song was questionable, the organisation usually intervenes by declaring a dispute.
“This is an internal process. What we normally do, we declare a dispute against that song and there will be no royalties paid out until a decision has been reached. If we failed the person can take the matter to high court,” Migogo said.
Vusi Nova said speaking to TshisaLIVE that no owns the songs as it just a chant commonly used by anyone.
“What I have decided is that people must just do and say whatever makes them happy and I will deal with it when I’m directly affected. All I know is the song is public domain. For everyone to want to say, ‘Oh I own the song is ridiculous!'”
