“The Black Community Doesn’t Fully Accept Me,” Says Tinashe
American pop star Tinashe who has a black Zimbabwean father and a white Irish mother was quoted in a recent interview saying she sometimes feel sidelined by the black community. “The Black Community Doesn’t Fully Accept Me,” Says Tinashe.
Responding to why she thinks she’s still considered a “new or upcoming” artist even after a few years in the industry, Tinashe said it’s because of colorism and racism in the industry.
“There’s colourism involved in the black community, which is very apparent. It’s about trying to find a balance where I’m a mixed woman, and sometimes I feel like I don’t fully fit into the black community; they don’t fully accept me, even though I see myself as a black woman. That disconnect is confusing sometimes,” she said.
Some fans seem to not agree with the ‘2 On’ singer saying it’s her music and nothing else.
