Babes Wodumo Allegedly Stole Her Latest Single GandaGanda
Another drama surrounding Babes Wodumo’s latest single GandaGanda have risen, two DJs from Durban have claimed that the Qgom Queen stole the song from them. Prior the release of the song, Babes announced on social media that she lost a USB that had the song on it. She said that some people told her that it was playing on Durban’s taxi rank. Later she she said that she found the USB. Twitter was in chaos, posting memes and comments about the issue, most found it hilarious while others thought it was just another way to market the song before it releases. The song was released the next day and is now available for download.
These two DJs are accusing Babes are Luvuyo ‘DJ Luvas’ Njeje and Lungelo ‘Pluto’ Ntombela and they are from Durban. The two DJs spoke to City Press about this. “Babes knows the truth. The title of her song and the duration are the same as ours; only the beats and lyrics are different. She stole our song, which we released on 6 April,” Njeje said. The DJ went on to state that Babes was referring to tehir song when she said the song was not mastered yet.
According to City Press, the publication took the two versions of the song mastered and unmastered and sent them to three producers, who requested for anonymity. They all confirmed that the song had the same hook in both versions.Babe’s publicist, Sarit Tomlinson dismissed these allegations calling referring to them as “blatant lies”.
One of the producers did however mention that “Gandaganda used to be a recitation that kids sang, so it does not belong to anyone. Unfortunately, these guys are fighting a losing battle.” The DJs have even gone as far as taking the matter to the South African Music Rights Organisations (SAMRO). The Organisation’s Eugene Golouw spokesperson confirmed that they received an email from Njeje. “We have sent them detailed policy documents outlining what they need to send to us, along with evidence to lodge a formal complaint,” said Eugene. Goulow also stated that last week Thursday they received a notification from West Ink Holdings which indicated that Babes is one of the co-authors of Gandaganda.
SAMRO currently awaits required documents from the DJs.
