Afrobeats Singer Chayuta Releases ‘Surrender’ – A Nostalgic Ode to Old-School Romance

Rising Afrobeats sensation Chayuta, affectionately known as the Afrobeats Princess, has just unveiled her latest single, “Surrender”. The track is a heartfelt tribute to youthful love, blending nostalgic vibes with modern Afrobeats rhythms. Produced by her longtime collaborator DJ Jabs, “Surrender” captures the essence of pure, old-school romance through soulful storytelling and melodic richness that resonates deeply with listeners.
Chayuta shares the inspiration behind the song: “Surrender was inspired by young love—the kind of story you’d see in Romeo and Juliet. It’s about that deep connection you hope to find one day and how powerful it feels in the moment.” The song invites listeners into an intimate world of longing and emotional vulnerability, balancing raw feelings with smooth, contemporary production.
Born to a South African mother and Ghanaian father, Chayuta’s multicultural background has greatly influenced her artistry. Having grown up between two rich cultures, she seamlessly blends Afrobeats and R&B, allowing herself the freedom to experiment vocally across genres. “I don’t box myself in. My voice is my instrument, and I use it to tell stories, whether in Afrobeats, R&B, or something entirely new,” she explains.
Chayuta’s breakthrough came with her debut EP “17”, released at just 18 years old. This pivotal project laid the foundation for her growing influence in the Afrobeats scene. Since then, she has collaborated with notable producers like Nigerian super-producer Phantom on tracks such as ‘Drop’, ‘Yawa’, and ‘GPS’. In a special highlight of her career, she also worked with the late R&B legend D’Wayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Toné! fame on an acoustic project, showcasing her vocal versatility and emotional depth.
When asked about her inspirations, Chayuta cites global icon Rihanna as her biggest musical and entrepreneurial influence. She dreams of collaborating with some of the biggest names in Afrobeats and R&B, including Tems, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, Usher, and DJ Maphorisa—ambitions that reflect her international outlook and desire to push creative boundaries.
Following the release of “Surrender”, Chayuta is gearing up for her upcoming EP, “From the Ashes”, set to drop on 5 September 2025. The new project promises exciting collaborations and an acoustic offering that will highlight her vocal range in a raw and emotive way, further solidifying her status as one of Afrobeats’ most promising stars.
With “Surrender”, Chayuta not only honors the timelessness of first love but also cements her position as a powerful storyteller in the evolving landscape of Afrobeats music. Fans and new listeners alike can expect a blend of heartfelt lyrics, infectious rhythms, and a fresh perspective that makes her music stand out in the crowded genre.
