SKEEM Saam Star Mahlatsi Moropo Drops Empowering Single “Cancel” Encouraging Self-Worth and Resilience

SKEEM Saam actor Mahlatsi Moropo is sending a strong message about self-worth, resilience, and rising above negativity with his latest single, “Cancel.” The 20-year-old talent from Seshego, Limpopo, is best known for his role as Letetswe Kunutu on SABC1’s popular soapie. His new release, classified under the Lekompo genre, marks a bold expansion of his artistic journey beyond acting.

Mahlatsi, who also excels as an MC, choreographer, dancer, and voice-over artist, recently earned the Viewer’s Choice Best Actor award at the 2024 Royalty Soapie Awards. Speaking about “Cancel,” he described the song as a personal milestone.

“Dropping Cancel feels like a huge milestone for me. I’ve been building up to this moment for a while and finally sharing it with the world is exciting and a little surreal. I’m proud of the work that went into the song and happy that people can finally hear it,” he said.

The single tackles themes of self-worth and emotional freedom. Mahlatsi explained, “It’s about knowing your worth and having the courage to walk away from things that no longer serve you — whether that’s relationships, situations, or even doubts within yourself. For me, it’s a statement of strength and freedom, and I think a lot of people will relate to that.”

Feedback since the release has been overwhelmingly positive. Mahlatsi said, “People are connecting with the message and telling me how it resonates with their own lives. Some say it feels like the anthem they didn’t know they needed, and that’s exactly what I wanted — for Cancel to empower anyone who listens.”

For Mahlatsi, music serves as more than a creative outlet. “It’s the space where I can be completely honest and tell stories that matter. For me, music isn’t just about making a hit — it’s about impact, healing, and creating something that people carry with them long after the song ends,” he shared.

Through “Cancel,” Mahlatsi hopes to inspire listeners to embrace their personal power and make decisions that honour their self-worth. “My song is about knowing when to choose yourself, and I want it to remind listeners that it’s okay to let go of what doesn’t serve you. If someone listens and feels empowered to make that decision in their own life, then I know the song did its job,” he added.

With “Cancel,” Mahlatsi Moropo continues to establish himself as a multi-faceted artist, using both music and acting to connect, inspire, and uplift audiences across South Africa.
