Soa Mattrix Drops New Single “Memeza” Featuring Kabza De Small

Multi-award-winning producer Soa Mattrix has released his latest single, Memeza, featuring amapiano heavyweight Kabza De Small. The track is described as more than just a hit, with Mattrix calling it a “deeply spiritual project.”

Speaking to Daily Sun, the 27-year-old Soweto-born producer, whose real name is Mandla Mashakeni, explained the creative approach behind the track. “We used creativity in terms of making sounds work, irrespective of what genre they are. We were curious about how it will sound, especially knowing how amapiano is so different from Afro-house,” he said.

The title Memeza was inspired by the song’s chorus. “It was chosen as the title because it was picked up from the chorus and how it mostly repeats on the upbeat part of the song, turning it into a sing-along and creating an anthem,” Mattrix said.

Collaborating with Kabza De Small came at the perfect time. “Kabza was already experimenting with the Afro part of music, and it so happened that he came at the right time. When I heard he’s already working on a sound like that, I had no choice but to switch Memeza from being a private school beat to Afro, especially because of the African melodies I put on it,” he explained.

Memeza goes beyond entertainment, blending jazz, gospel, and orchestral elements. The track features contributions from Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Starr Healer, Msongi, Nkosazana Daughter, and Russel Zuma, among others. Mattrix emphasized the spiritual and musical depth of the project.

The single has received a warm reception from fans. “The response has been amazing. The song is moving well and soon we will announce the visual for it, so it’ll get more exciting,” Mattrix said.

Memeza is now available on major streaming platforms, marking another milestone in Soa Mattrix’s growing career and showcasing his ability to fuse multiple sounds while maintaining amapiano’s distinctive rhythm.
