MASKANDI Star Mzukulu Breaks Streaming Records with Ngifuna Intozami

KwaCele, KZN-born maskandi hitmaker Mzukulu, real name Sfanele Zulu, is making waves with his latest album, Ngifuna Intozami. The album amassed over 700 000 Spotify streams in just two days, a milestone typically reserved for amapiano heavyweights like Kabza De Small and Kelvin Momo.

Mzukulu expressed excitement and emotion over the response. He told Daily Sun, “I’m very excited about what’s happening with my album but it’s also scary! I knew my supporters would show love, but I never expected this level of support. It’s unbelievable!”

The artist believes the success of Ngifuna Intozami demonstrates that maskandi is no longer a genre to be underestimated. “Maskandi is growing fast, and that pace is scary in a good way. People never used to take the genre seriously, but thanks to the elders who respected and built it, we’re now taking it to the next level,” he said.

He highlighted the role of the new generation of maskandi artists in keeping the genre alive while honoring its roots. “Those who came before us paved the way. Now people are starting to see that maskandi is not for uneducated people or those without direction. It’s real art, it’s storytelling, it’s our culture!”

Mzukulu also addressed fans about the slight delay in making the album widely available. “The album is finally available on iTunes. I’m sorry to everyone who was waiting but it’s here now, and I promise it’s worth it,” he confirmed.

Ngifuna Intozami blends traditional maskandi sounds with modern production, earning praise for its fresh beats and powerful lyrics. With over 700 000 streams and counting, Mzukulu is proving that maskandi can compete with South Africa’s biggest music acts, solidifying his place at the forefront of the genre.
