Rubber Duc Return with New Single “Girl Next Door”

South African indie-pop favourites Rubber Duc are back with their latest single, “Girl Next Door.” The track is bright yet introspective, exploring the messy, hyperconnected world of modern romance. It is the second single from their forthcoming EP, Old Money, capturing the experience of falling for someone through a screen, where fantasy and reality often blur.

Lead singer Nick Jordaan explains the inspiration behind the song: “‘Girl Next Door’ is really about life today and how easy it is to get lost behind our screens. We live in a time where everything’s at our fingertips, and it’s become so easy to get caught up in the highlight reels people post online. The song talks about falling for the idea of someone, not who they really are, and how that can leave you stuck in this strange space where you’re completely obsessed, but they might never even know you exist.”

The track blends catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and the laid-back charm that has become Rubber Duc’s signature. “Girl Next Door” reflects on love, connection, and self-awareness in a world dominated by screens, highlighting the band’s ability to balance personal storytelling with universal themes.

Old Money, Rubber Duc’s upcoming EP, marks a new creative chapter for the band. The five-track project features four new songs and a bonus track. The band says it captures their authentic sound. “We went back to basics, just jamming together and focusing on feel before production. It reminded us why we love creating music as a group,” they share.

More than a decade into their journey, Rubber Duc say Old Money represents a return to their roots and a reminder of what sparked their passion for music. The band plans to take their new material on tour, with shows across South Africa, Dubai, and beyond.

“This EP feels like home,” they add. “It’s a reminder of who we are and why we started making music in the first place.”
